A Gravity Sewer Pipe Layer installs, aligns, and repairs underground sanitary sewer and storm pipes, ensuring precise slope and grade for proper waste flow. Key duties include interpreting blueprints, setting pipe lasers, cutting/joining pipes, installing manholes, backfilling trenches, and adhering to strict safety/trenching regulations.
Your Day
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Alignment: Lay sanitary sewer and storm drain pipe, using laser equipment, transit levels, and grade rods to ensure accurate elevation and slope for gravity flow.
Pipe Fitting & Joining: Connect pipes and fittings using gaskets, glue, or mechanical joints.
Structure Construction: Install precast manholes, catch basins, and valve vaults.
Trenching Support: Guide excavation equipment operators to maintain proper trench depth and width.
Safety Compliance: Maintain safe, properly shored, and accessible trenches (shoring/trench boxes) and follow OSHA regulations.
Backfilling: Backfill, compact, and grade soil around pipes to prevent damage and settling.
Your Experience
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience in underground utility construction (sewer, water, storm).
Technical Skills: Ability to read blue prints, site plans, and understand grade requirements.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift over 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods in varying weather conditions.
Equipment Knowledge: Experience with saws, pipe cutters, levels, and lasers.
