You just walked out of a job interview or finished your application at a staffing agency. Now what?

1. Be Ready for a Callback or Follow-Up Interview

  • Keep your phone on and your voicemail clear
  • Respond to calls and texts as quickly as possible

This sounds obvious, but it’s one of the most common reasons workers  miss out on assignments. After registering with a staffing agency, recruiters often fill jobs fast. If you’re hard to reach, they’ll move on to the next person on the list.

3. Reflect On Your Skills and Be Ready to Talk About Them

4. Show Up Early and Dress for the Job

If you're called back for a follow-up interview or orientation, treat it like the job itself. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early
  • Dress appropriately: you don't need a suit. But clean, work appropriate clothes and sturdy boots if you have them are a great idea.
  • Bring what you need: have your ID, certifications, and any paperwork you were asked to complete ready to go.

5. Keep Applying

Keep applying to other open positions and stay active in your job search. In labor and construction work, things move fast – a position can be filled in a day, a project can get delayed and push a start date back by weeks.
