4 Ways to Build a Good Relationship with Your Staffing Agency
A staffing agency can help you find work that fits your skills, schedule, and goals. When you build a strong relationship with your branch staff, it can be easier for them to connect you with the right opportunities.
You don’t have to overcomplicate it. Good communication, reliability, and a strong work ethic can make a big difference. Here are five things you can do.
1. Tell Them What Kind of Work You Want
Start by being clear about what you’re looking for. Tell your staffing coordinator about your work experience, the jobs you’re comfortable doing, and when you’re available.
Be sure to mention any skills or certifications you have, too. Forklift experience, flagger certification, construction skills, warehouse experience, or other qualifications could help you get matched with the right assignment.
If you’re hoping for something more steady, say so. Some temporary jobs can lead to permanent or temp-to-hire opportunities.
2. Keep Your Information Up to Date
Things change. Maybe you have more availability now, or maybe you now have reliable transportation. Let your branch staff know. Keeping your information current helps the branch member know which jobs may be a good fit for you. It’s also important to make sure they have your current phone number and email address.
3. Show Up and Be Ready to Work
Reliability goes a long way. When you accept an assignment:
- Arrive on time
- Come prepared to work
- Follow safety rules
- Listen to instructions
- Give the job your best effort
Every assignment is a chance to build a good work history. When employers and your branch team know they can count on you, it can help you build a reputation as a reliable worker.
"Work is steady when you show up on time and are willing and able to do anything to get the job done. Be consistent, keep showing up, and you will get work."
4. Speak Up When Something Changes
If you’re going to be late, can’t make it to an assignment, or have a problem at work, contact your branch team as soon as you can. Don’t just stop showing up. Your staffing coordinator can’t help with a situation if they don’t know what’s happening. Communication works the other way, too. If you finish an assignment and really liked the assignment, tell them. Let them know you’d like more jobs like it.
Keep Building Toward Your Next Opportunity
Temporary work doesn’t have to be just about today’s job. Each assignment can give you another chance to earn money, build experience, learn new skills, and show employers what you can do.
If you’re looking for more consistent work, tell your Labor Finders branch manager. They can better understand what you’re working toward and keep your goals in mind when opportunities become available.
