The raging storm, as of 11 a.m. ET, was located about 485 miles southeast of Wilmington and 520 miles east-southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, moving northwest at 15 mph. Florence took a small turn to the south-west and is still forecast to make landfall in North and or South Carolina.

Weather forecasters are warning that the Category 4 storm will slow and then stall just offshore and might produce catastrophic flooding and rain in a now larger area along the Carolina’s coast including farther inland than previously predicted.

Tropical cyclone  winds, extending 175 miles from the center, were expected to make landfall by Thursday morning.
